Activity 7: Capacity Building and Uptake

Capacity building is an important component of the GEF project for Central America and related resource requirements are covered by non LEAD-funding. In addition, LEAD will conduct the following training and capacity building courses:

  • 2 regional workshops for policy makers for Central American countries
  • 2 technical workshops for researchers and development workers focusing on novel silvo-pastoral technologies for Central American countries
  • 1 technical workshop for policy makers and stakeholders, involving different agents in the deforestation process, in the Brazilian Amazon.

The policy component of the GEF project will be designed in collaboration with partner organisations and will take into account the specific policy environment in each of the project countries. Co-ordination of the policy work at international level will enable LEAD to develop generic tools which can be adapted by other organisations . Mechanisms and structures for effective policy change will be explored. Support will be provided to the different project stakeholders to promote the uptake of project outputs at the various levels, including the development of a legal framework at national level.
